Before you begin

Check compatibility

  • Windows 10 version 1809 or later
  • Windows 11
  • 64-bit Windows recommended
  • MSIX for most users; MSI for managed IT deployment

Download options

Choose the right installer

Use the recommended package for your device, or choose a specific package when your setup requires it.
01

Download the recommended package

Use the Windows download for the latest desktop app. Choose the MSI installer only when your organization needs managed deployment or silent installation.

02

Install and sign in

Open the installer, launch AxCrypt, and sign in with your AxCrypt account. If you are new, create an account and verify your email before securing files.

03

Encrypt your first file

Select the Encrypt quick action, drag files onto the Home page, or right-click a file in Windows Explorer and choose the AxCrypt action.

04

Use Windows workflows

Use right-click actions, Secured Folders, Vault, Password Manager, Cloud Security, and secure sharing from the same signed-in desktop app.

What you can do

Core workflows

  • Explorer right-click actions
  • MSIX and MSI installer options
  • Secured Folders and automatic cleanup
  • Cloud, Vault, Password Manager, and sharing tools

Helpful notes

Best practices

  • Use MSIX for a normal personal install and MSI for wider business rollout.
  • Files encrypted with AxCrypt are saved as .axx files.
  • Keep a backup of important files because AxCrypt cannot recover forgotten account passwords.
