Encrypting Files with AxCrypt on Desktop
3 Easy Ways to Encrypt
- Use the 'Secure' Button
File: Click on Secure action button, and select the file(s) you want to encrypt. - Drag and Drop
File: Just drag and drop your file(s) into the AxCrypt Home | Recent Files section.
Folder: Go to the ‘Secured Folders’ menu and drag and drop a folder. Alternatively, you can also click on ‘Add or Drag Folder’ to select the folder you want to encrypt files within. - Right-Click Context Menu (Windows)
File: Right-click on any file on file explorer, then choose AxCrypt → ‘Encrypt’.
Folder: Right-click on any folder of which you want to encrypt files within, then choose AxCrypt → ‘Encrypt’.
Encrypting Files with AxCrypt on Mobile Device
- Open the AxCrypt app
- Tap Secure
- Select the file provider (Authorize if required)
- Browse and tap on the file(s)
- Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive encryption are supported on iOS and Android.
- Local storage file encryption is also available on Android.

- Use the 'Stop Secure' Button
File: Click on Stop Secure action button, and select the file(s) you want to decrypt. - App Right-click context menu
File: In the Home | Recent Files section: Right-click on the selected file(s) → choose Stop Secure
Folder: Go to the Secured Folders menu: Right-click on the selected folder → choose Decrypt Permanently - Right-Click Context Menu (Windows)
File: Right-click on any file on file explorer, then choose AxCrypt → ‘Decrypt’.
Folder: Right-click on any folder of which you want to decrypt files within, then choose AxCrypt → ‘Decrypt’.
Decrypting Files on Mobile App (Android/iOS)
- Open the AxCrypt mobile app
- Log in with your AxCrypt account
- Tap Stop Secure
- Select the file provider (Authorize if required)
- Browse and tap on the .axx file(s)
Quick Tips
Files once encrypted will have an extension .axx
Always use strong, complex passwords and remember not to forget it. AxCrypt is encryption with no backdoors. Without the password your files are lost. Do not forget your password! Always keep proper backups of important files, encrypted or not.
AxCrypt 2 can decrypt files that were encrypted using AxCrypt 1 but not vice-versa.
